The MITx MicroMasters® program in Statistics and Data Science (SDS) is an online program of courses offering a multidisciplinary approach, developed by MITx and the MIT Institute for Data, Systems, and Society (IDSS). The Program Credential consists of four intensive online courses—three core courses and one elective—which provide learners with both foundational knowledge essential to understanding methods and tools used in data science and with hands-on practice.
Learners will practice implementing and experimenting with data analysis techniques and machine learning algorithms. After learners complete these four courses they will complete one virtually-proctored Capstone Exam to complete the program and earn the Program Credential.
To complete the SDS MicroMasters program, learners will need to take all three core courses and one of two elective courses. Once learners have passed all four courses, they will then take the virtually-proctored Capstone Exam to earn the MicroMasters Program Credential in Statistics and Data Science.
Learners who earn the Program Credential are welcomed to apply for admission to the Ph.D. program in Social and Engineering Systems (SES)—offered by the MIT Institute for Data, Systems, and Society (IDSS). Admitted students may apply their MicroMasters Program Credential towards the Doctoral program. Learners may also accelerate their path towards a Master’s degree at other universities around the world. For more information, please visit the Pathways to a Graduate Program page.
It is important to note that the MicroMasters program itself is not a degree-granting program, nor is it a guarantee of admission to MIT or to any of the IDSS graduate programs. It is a separate, stand-alone professional certificate offered by MITx and delivered by edX. For more information, and to enroll, visit the Program Page on edX.
