Yes, learners are welcome to take any DEDP course they wish to! However, it is important to note that a maximum of one Introductory elective course may contribute to your DEDP MicroMasters Program Credential.
If you have already earned the MicroMasters Course Certificate for either of the two Introductory Elective courses, 14.73x Challenges of Global Poverty or 14.009x Good Economics for Hard Times, then you cannot also gain credit towards the DEDP Program Credential by earning the Course Certificate for the other course.
If you wish to take an additional DEDP elective course and you do not require the Course Certificate for that course, then you are welcome to complete the course on the Audit track—you do not need to submit payment for that course.
If you do wish to receive a Course Certificate, then you must submit payment for the course and sit for its Proctored Exam. If you earn a passing Overall Course Score (50% or higher), then you will receive the MicroMasters Course Certificate for the course—even though it will not contribute to the count of Course Certificates required to complete the DEDP MicroMasters Program Credential. For more details about earning a Course Certificate, please refer to this FAQ article.
If you complete three or four DEDP elective courses, the Overall Course Scores for your highest-scoring Advanced Elective course and your next-highest-scoring elective course (either Advanced or Introductory) will be used to calculate your DEDP MicroMasters Program Overall Grade, as well as for any application you make to the DEDP Master’s program.
For example, if you completed these three DEDP Elective Courses with these Overall Course Scores...
- 14.009x Good Economics for Hard Times (Introductory): 80%
- 14.740x Foundations of Development Policy (Advanced): 70%
- 14.750x Political Economy and Economic Development (Advanced): 90%
...your course scores for 14.009x and 14.750x would be used to calculate your DEDP MicroMasters Program Overall Grade, and for the purposes of applications to the DEDP Master's Program.
