To upgrade to the Certificate/Verified (Paid) enrollment track for an SCM MicroMasters course, you must submit payment of the Course Fee. You may either upgrade during initial enrollment in a course session or afterward, but in either case, you must upgrade before the Verification/Payment Deadline of the course session.
The timing of the Payment Deadline varies between courses, but is always strict. If you fail to upgrade before a course session's Payment Deadline, then will need to wait for a future session to upgrade and retake the course.
SC0x Supply Chain Analytics
The Payment Deadline for the first course, SC0x Supply Chain Analytics, is 21 days before the scheduled release of the Final Exam, near the end of each course session. The structure of SC0x provides all learners with immediate access to all Course Content except for the Final Exam. Consequently, more time is available to decide whether to upgrade your enrollment in a specific SC0x course session to sit for its Final Exam and earn the Course Certificate (depending on when during the course session you enroll).
Important Note: Sessions of SC0x are longer than other SCM course sessions, with correspondingly more time during which it is possible to upgrade your enrollment. However, Certificate/Verified enrollment track status is tied to the specific course session for which payment of the Course Fee was submitted.
If you submit payment early in an SC0x course session but later determine that you need more than a single course session to prepare for the Final Exam, it may no longer be possible to get a refund of your payment. You would need to either sit for the Final Exam at the end of the course session regardless, or re-enroll in, re-submit payment for, and re-take the course in a future session to sit for the Final Exam in that session.

SC1x, SC2x, SC3x, and SC4x
The Payment Deadline for the next four courses, SC1x, SC2x, SC3x, and SC4x, is at the end of the third week of each course session. Unlike SC0x, the structure of these courses does not provide Audit (Free) learners with access to all Course Content, and not all content is released immediately. Consequently, less time is available to decide whether to upgrade your enrollment in a course session to earn its Course Certificate (depending on when during the course session you enroll).
Comprehensive Final Exam (CFx)
The Payment Deadline for the final course, the Comprehensive Final Exam (CFx), is four weeks after the scheduled Start Date of each session. However, because the CFx is only available to eligible learners—who have already earned the Course Certificates for SC0x, SC1x, SC2x, SC3x, and SC4x—enrollment for this course is not open to learners. Instead, the SCM team directly manges enrollment for the CFx.
All eligible learners are manually enrolled into each session of the CFx course by the SCM team approximately 4–6 weeks before the scheduled Exam Window. Once you are enrolled in a CFx session, if you intend to sit for the program's final exam in that session, you must take action quickly to upgrade your enrollment. See the SCM Schedule of Course Availability for details
However, you are not required to sit for the CFx as soon as you are eligible to do so. If you do not feel prepared to take the exam yet, you are welcome to wait for a future CFx session. All you need do is not upgrade your enrollment in that session, and wait until you are enrolled in a future CFx session for which you feel prepared.
Because the CFx course's final exam is a Proctored Exam, you must also complete ID Verification as part of the Onboarding process. The edX Platform will ask you to verify your identity using a government-issued ID.
