After you complete and submit your Proctored Exam attempt for a DEDP MicroMasters course session, you will need to wait for final course scores to be released in order to find out whether you passed the course. Unfortunately, this can be a confusing time for some learners, and some may also experience automatic communications which may be further confusing. It is important to remember that the DEDP Course Team will reach out to you directly if they need any additional information from you or need you to take any special actions.
Please read the following information carefully for clarification about the most common points of confusion for DEDP learners after taking the Proctored Exam.
If You Received An Email that You "Passed Proctoring"
Anytime between your immediate submission of a Proctored Exam to several days later, you may receive a notification—typically an email—indicating you "Passed Proctoring", or that your proctored exam "was reviewed and you met all proctoring requirements", or that "you should receive an email with your exam status within 5 business days". These notifications do not indicate that you passed the exam or earned a course certificate.
This "Passed Proctoring" notice refers to the proctoring requirements. The message means that your Proctored Exam attempt was successfully submitted with no immediate violation flags and that the proctoring software functioned correctly during your attempt.
The "you should receive an email with your exam status within 5 business days" is, unfortunately, the result of a technical issue with the platform, and you should not expect to receive such an email—and you do not need to worry about whether you do or do not receive this "status update" email.
What If I Receive an Email Saying That I Violated the Proctored Exam Rules?
You may receive one or more email notifications indicating that the automatic proctoring system has flagged one or more rules violations for your Proctored Exam attempt. Please know that all automatic violation flags are automatically passed to the DEDP team for manual human review in order to either affirm or deny the violation. In some cases, you may receive an email notification that the manual, human review of your attempt has found one or more rules violations.
If you receive any of these messages, they should also contain what—if any—next steps are required of you. But, if you are unsure of what to do next, please feel free to reach out to us at dedp-micromasters-support@mit.edu for assistance.
If You Received an Email Saying mentioning "Your certificate"
You may also receive a notification—typically an email—that says "Your certificate will be available not later than..." with a date listed. This language refers to the date when a certificate will be generated if you achieve a passing score. This message does not indicate that your score has been calculated yet or that you have passed the course.
If You Cannot View the Progress Tab within the Course
Because of the manual calculations required to compute final course scores for a DEDP course session, once the Proctored Exam testing period starts the DEDP MicroMasters team temporarily disables the Progress Tab in the courseware for all DEDP course sessions running that term. The Progress Tab is hidden in order to prevent the system from displaying incorrect or incomplete Proctored Exam and Total Course Grades to learners during the Proctored Exam testing period—before final grades are ready. If you can no longer see the Progress Tab in your MITx Online courseware, this is the reason.
The DEDP team will restore access to the Progress Tab for all affected course sessions as soon as they can ensure that only correct scores will be reported to learners. Typically, this happens when final scores are released. If final scores for your course session were released more than one business week ago and you still cannot see the Progress tab within the course, please reach out to us at dedp-micromasters-support@mit.edu for assistance.
If you see partial or incomplete scores on your MITx Online Dashboard or the Progress Tab within the Course before final scores are released
Occasionally, something goes wrong, and the MITx Online Platform might display scores before they are ready. Our Engineering and MicroMasters teams work hard to prevent this from occurring, but sometimes it is unavoidable.
Final scores are released 2-4 weeks after the end of the course session. If you see any scores purporting to be your Proctored Exam Score or your Total Course Grade after you submitted your Proctored Exam attempt, but before final scores have officially been released, do not trust that those scores are accurate.
Any Proctored Exam Scores or Total Course Grade you see before final scores are released are likely to have been automatically calculated by the platform, but DEDP Total Course Grades require manual processing by the course teams after the close of the Proctored Exam testing period. Any scores you may see are not correct or final until the DEDP team announces the release of final scores/grades.
How Will I Know When Final Scores Are Released? Where Can I See My Final Scores and Access My Course Certificates?
Final, official scores for all of the DEDP MicroMasters course sessions which ran in a DEDP term are released at the same time—about 2-4 weeks after the end of the Proctored Exam testing session (See here for details). When final scores are released, all learners who completed one or more of the course sessions in that term will receive an email from the course team, announcing the release.
The Progress tab within your course sessions' courseware will be restored, and you will be able to see your Proctored Exam score for each course session in which you completed an attempt.
If you achieved a passing Total Course Score and earned a Course Certificate, you will be able to access your certificate directly from your MITx Online Dashboard by clicking the "View Certificate" link inside the box for your recent course session. For instructions on how to access your Course Certificats, your DEDP Program Record, and your DEDP Program Credential (once you complete the program), please see this FAQ article.
