While the MITx MicroMasters program in Principles of Manufacturing does not enforce strict prerequisites for the entry-level courses, it is recommended that learners have a strong engineering undergraduate background and understanding of statistics and probability theory to perform well in the courses.
For the courses Manufacturing Process Control II and Manufacturing Systems II, it is strongly recommended (though not enforced) that learners start with the corresponding I courses in each sequence. This is because the concepts and knowledge learned in the first course serve as a foundation for the second course, and building upon that foundation will enhance understanding and success in the more advanced course.
However, it's important to note that the Management in Engineering and Supply Chains for Manufacturing courses no longer have a sequential I-II course structure, and learners can take them in any order without strict prerequisites.
While prerequisites are not strictly enforced, it's advisable to assess your own knowledge and skills to determine if you have the necessary background to succeed in each course. Reviewing the course descriptions, learning objectives, and syllabi can provide more specific information about the content covered in each course, allowing you to make an informed decision about your readiness to take a particular course.
