There is no formal application or admission process for the MicroMasters Program Credential in Statistics and Data Science (SDS). Enrollment in the program is as simple as enrolling in its courses.
Requirements
The SDS MicroMasters program does not require learners to possess any specific academic background—like an undergraduate degree—or to take any specific courses beforehand. However, the SDS MicroMasters courses are graduate-level and they assume learners will already possess proficiency in several topic areas.
Learners will excel in the SDS MicroMasters courses only if they are comfortable with mathematical reasoning, multi-variable calculus, and Python programming before beginning the program. Learners attempting to take SDS MicroMasters courses without adequate proficiency in the required topic areas are likely to find the courses extremely challenging to complete successfully.
Each SDS MicroMasters course lists specific pre-requisites—the knowledge and skills that learners are assumed to be proficient with before starting the course. Because each Program Track includes a different subset of SDS courses, the overall pre-requisites for each Program Track will vary.
Additionally, while the program does not mandate learners take courses in a specific order, several SDS courses do build upon content and concepts introduced in other courses, so the SDS Team strongly recommends that most learners follow a basic course order, depending on which Program Track they choose.

Purchase Options
You can purchase a whole SDS MicroMasters Program Track altogether, with the Program Track Bundle, and enroll in courses as they become available; or you can enroll in courses as they become available and purchase them individually.
Program Track Bundle
The SDS MicroMasters Program Track Bundle costs $1,350 USD—a 10% discount. However, the Bundle also requires you to enroll in all of the included courses within 24 months.
- See this FAQ article for details
- See this edX Help Center Article for more information about Program Bundles
Individual Courses
The courses required to complete any of the SDS Program Tracks, purchased individually, cost $300 USD each—for a total program cost of $1,500 USD.
The purchase options can also be mixed. If you purchase the Program Track Bundle but end up needing to repeat a course, you can re-enroll in and re-purchase that course individually. Likewise, if you purchase one or more courses individually, you can choose to purchase the Program Track Bundle to upgrade your remaining courses at any time.
To Purchase the Program Track Bundle:
- Navigate to the edX Program Page for your chosen SDS MicroMasters Program Track—which you can find listed above
- Click the "I'm interested" button or scroll down to the "Enrolling Now" section and click the "Pursue the Program" button
- Follow the directions to purchase your chosen Program Track
Now that you've purchased the Program Track, you have a Paid Course Entitlement for each of the courses in your Program Track and you should see a special entry on your edX Dashboard for them. Courses that have available sessions open for enrollment will display a "Select a session" dropdown menu, which you can use to enroll in them.
To Enroll in and Purchase Courses Individually
- Navigate to the edX Course Page for an SDS MicroMasters course—which you can find from your Track's Program Page, or from the SDS MicroMasters site, both listed above
- Choose a course session, if more than one is available, and click the red "Enroll now" button
- Choose whether to submit payment immediately and enroll directly onto the Verified/Certificate (Paid) enrollment track, or start out on the Audit (free) enrollment track and upgrade later
- You will have until the course session's Payment Deadline to upgrade. The deadline is typically 4-8 weeks after the session's Start Date, and will be prominently listed within the Courseware
After Enrolling in a Course Session
Now that you're enrolled in a course session, you should see it on your edX Dashboard. If the session has already started, you'll be able to access the Courseware immediately. If the session hasn't started yet, you'll need to wait for its Start Date. Once it has started, access your Courseware by clicking the course name or the "Start Course" button.
