Time Spent on Courses
Each of the four Content courses required to complete the SDS MicroMasters Program runs for 15-17 weeks and requires approximately 10-15 hours of effort per week from a well-prepared learner. In addition to the Content Courses, learners must also prepare for and complete the Capstone Exam course, which comprises four cumulative two-hour long virtually proctored exams, covering all of the program's content. Altogether, this represents approximately 628-862 total hours of effort within courses.
Overall Program Duration
The amount of time required to complete the MITx MicroMasters Program Credential in Statistics and Data Science (SDS) varies, based on several factors, including choice of Program Track, course order, and starting time. However, learners following the recommended Course Order considerations can typically expect to complete the Program in around 18-24 months.
Exceptionally well-prepared learners may be able to complete the program in as little as three semesters—about 12 months. However, this requires both taking multiple courses concurrently and outside of the generally-recommended order; and may only be possible for certain Program Tracks or from certain starting times.
