The amount of time required to complete the MITx MicroMasters Program Credential in Statistics and Data Science (SDS) varies, based on several factors, including choice of Program Track, course order, and starting time. However, learners following the recommended Course Order considerations can typically expect to complete the Program in around 18-24 months.
Exceptionally well-prepared learners may be able to complete the program in as little as three semesters—about 12 months. However, this requires both taking multiple courses concurrently and outside of the generally-recommended order; and may only be possible for certain Program Tracks or from certain starting times.
General Recommendations
The SDS MicroMasters Program requires learners to complete four online Content Courses, each running for 15-17 weeks and requiring approximately 10-15 hours of effort per week from a well-prepared learner. Learners must also prepare for and complete the Capstone Exam course afterward, comprising four cumulative two-hour long virtually proctored exams. Overall, the program is estimated to require approximately 628-862 total hours of effort.
The SDS MicroMasters team generally recommends that most learners take one SDS MicroMasters course at a time, and follow a basic set of Recommended Course Order Considerations. However, exceptionally well-prepared learners may be able to successfully take courses outside of that recommended order and/or take multiple courses concurrently, depending on both their own schedules and the SDS course availability schedule—though they do so at their own risk. This SDS MicroMasters Program is not designed to facilitate learners taking multiple courses concurrently, and Coursework Assignments, Projects, and Exams from concurrently-running courses may overlap.
