The SDS program's courses are offered on a set, staggered schedule, with certain courses available during each of three SDS semesters each year. The SDS semesters are:
- Spring—starting in January/February
- Summer—starting in May/June
- Fall—starting in August/September.
Most SDS courses run on an alternating schedule, with two sessions being offered one year, and one session the next. The exceptions to this schedule are 14.310x (the required Content Course for 14.310Fx)—which is offered three times every year, and the Capstone Exam—which is offered twice every year.
There is no strictly mandated course order for the SDS MicroMasters program, but the SDS team does strongly recommend that most learners follow a basic course order. The program is designed so that at least one entry-point course runs during each SDS semester, so learners can start the SDS program in any semester—though they may not always be able to start with their preferred course first.
Depending on when you plan to start your courses, you will have different options available to you. Not all possible sequences of courses will be available when starting from any particular semester. You may need to either wait to start the program or wait one or more semesters between courses in order to follow your preferred course sequence. See this FAQ article for more information about Recommended Course Order
The current and upcoming schedule for SDS courses can be found on the SDS Program's Upcoming Dates page, presented as a visual calendar format at the top of the page and as detailed text further down the page. All dates for future sessions presented on the Upcoming Dates page are subject to change by up to 1-2 weeks.
Caution:
Please be aware that although the SDS Program Team typically plans course session availability around one year in advance, the next available course session may not always be listed on the edX course page due to the scheduling process. To stay updated on the upcoming course sessions, we strongly recommend that you regularly check the Upcoming Dates page.
