Yes, learners are allowed to repeat most SDS MicroMasters courses as many times as they wish. This includes all courses except the SDS Capstone Exam—which only allows two attempts.
Each offering of a course is evaluated independently. If you took a course on the Verified/Certificate (Paid) enrollment track in a past session but didn't achieve a passing score—or you want to improve your passing score—you must re-enroll in a future session of the course and submit payment again to upgrade that enrollment to the Verified/Certificate (Paid) track. Payment of the Course Fee applies only to the session for which it was made, and verification fees cannot be transferred across courses or course sessions.
It's important to note that passing scores earned in the online courses make you eligible to take the Capstone Exam for a period of five years. This means that if you passed your first SDS course during the Spring 2021 semester, you would have until the Fall 2025 semester to complete the remaining courses and be eligible to take the Capstone Exam in Spring 2026—without retaking any courses.
While all learners can take MicroMasters courses for free on the Audit track, passing scores achieved on the Audit track do not qualify for a MicroMasters Course Certificate or count towards the Statistics and Data Science MicroMasters Program Credential. To earn the MicroMasters Course Certificate and receive credit towards the MicroMasters Program Credential, courses must be taken on the Verified/Certificate (Paid) enrollment track.
