While MIT does not currently offer a pathway from the SDS MicroMasters Program to a Master’s degree, SDS MicroMasters Program Credential holders are invited to apply for admission to the MIT Doctoral Program in Social and Engineering Systems (SES), offered through the MIT Institute for Data, Systems, and Society (IDSS). However, please note that earning the SDS MicroMasters Program Credential does not guarantee admission to the SES Doctoral Program at MIT, or any other Pathway Program.
The SES Doctoral program is a unique research program offered by MIT IDSS. Prospective students can directly apply for admission to the SES program either with or without having completed the SDS MicroMasters program. The Admissions Committee considers all aspects of every candidate in the admissions process. Holding the Program Credential does not change the overall application process for the SES program, and does not confer any specific preference or advantage in admissions over learners who have not completed the MicroMasters, but does demonstrate to the Admissions Committee the applicant's preparation in statistics and data science fundamentals and capacity to complete graduate-level coursework.
All applicants must meet the program's Application Requirements. While applicants are not required to already possess a full Master's degree, they must already possess a Bachelor's or equivalent undergraduate degree. Applicants are required to submit their application by a specified deadline (typically around December 15, each year) and also fulfill the other admission requirements set by the program.
SDS MicroMasters Program Credential holders who apply to and are admitted to the SES Doctoral Program can expect that their MicroMasters program coursework will be recognized with credit for corresponding SES core classes and requirements.
