In order to successfully complete the MITx MicroMasters Program in Data, Economics, and Design of Policy (DEDP) and earn a DEDP MicroMasters Program Credential, a learner must earn the MicroMasters Course Certificates for five DEDP courses according to the following requirements:
Earn the Course Certificate for all three Core Courses
All learners must take all three Core Courses:
-
14.100x Microeconomics
Choose a Program Track and Earn the Course Certificates for two of that Track's Elective Courses
The DEDP MicroMasters Program is now split into two Program Tracks: the International Development Track and the Public Policy Track.
To complete the International Development Track, learners must take two of the track's three Elective Courses:
- 14.73x The Challenges of Global Poverty
- 14.740x Foundations of Development Policy
- 14.750x Political Economy and Economic Development
To complete the Public Policy Track, learners must take both of the track's two Elective Courses:
- 14.009x Good Economics for Hard Times
- 14.003x Microeconomic Theory and Public Policy
Advanced and Introductory Elective Courses
While learners were previously required to take at least one Advanced Elective Course and at most one Introductory Elective Course, due to the split into two Program Tracks, it is no longer necessary to consider this restriction, as each Program Track contains at most one Introductory Elective Course.
How to Earn a DEDP Course Certificate
In order to pass a DEDP MicroMasters Course and earn a MicroMasters Course Certificate, a learner must do all of the following:
- Enroll in a session of the course
- Upgrade that course session to the Verified (Paid) track by submitting payment before the Payment Deadline
- Complete coursework and the Comprehensive Review (or import a Cumulative Course Score from a previous course session)
- Sit for the course’s Proctored Exam (or import a Proctored Exam Score from a previous course session)
- Earn an Overall Course Score of at least 50%
How to Earn a DEDP Program Credential
Once you have earned Course Certificates for all three Core Courses and Course Certificates for two Elective Courses from your chosen Program Track, you will automatically be awarded the MicroMasters Program Credential in Data, Economics, and Design of Policy for your Program Track!
If you earn the Course Certificates for all three Core Courses and Course Certificates for two Elective Courses from different Program Tracks, you will not receive a DEDP MicroMasters Program Credential, as you have not fulfilled the criteria to be awarded the Program Credential for either of the Program Tracks.
Important Note Regarding 14.009x Good Economics for Hard Times
Because 14.009x Good Economics for Hard Times was part of the existing, sole track for DEDP until the split into two Program Tracks in Fall 2023, learners who earned the Course Certificate for 14.009x during the Summer 2023 semester (or who earned it in any earlier semester) may count that course towards completion of the International Development Track. Any learners who earn the Course Certificate for 14.009x in any semester after Summer 2023 may only count the course towards completion of the Public Policy Track.
