A Timed Exam is a course assessment that must be completed within a limited amount of time. Timed Exams are generally available for completion only during a set window of time.
How Does the MMFin Program Use Timed Exams?
In the MMFin program, each course session will end with a Timed Exam, the Timed Final Exam. The score a learner earns for the Timed Final Exam, combined with the scores they have earned for the coursework, will determine whether the learner passes the course and receives its MicroMasters Course Certificate.
Unlike a Proctored Exam, a Timed Exam does not require learners to complete the Onboarding Exam process, verify their identity, install Proctortrack software, or be monitored while they take the exam.
Starting with the Fall 2023 semester of Foundations of Modern Finance I, the five MMFin Content Courses will end with a Timed Final Exam for learners enrolled on the Verified (Paid) track.
How Do Timed Exams Work?
You will only be able to start an MMFin Timed Final Exam during the set Testing Period—which will be communicated to all learners from the beginning of the course session. During the Testing Period, you will be able to "open" your exam to start working on it at any time.
Once you start your Timed Final Exam attempt by opening the exam, you must finish the exam and submit it within the Time Limit—which will also be communicated to learners from the beginning of the course session. Any exam questions that you do not submit answers for by the end of the Time Limit will not be graded. Your exam will be automatically closed and submitted at the end of the Time Limit.
Beware, however, if you choose to start your exam too close to the end of the Testing Period, you will not receive the full Time Limit to complete and submit your exam. All Timed Final Exams for an MMFin course will be automatically submitted at the end of the Testing Period, regardless of whether or not they were open for the full Time Limit.
If the Time Limit for a course's Timed Final Exam is two hours, but you start the exam one hour before the end of the Testing Period, then you will only have one hour to complete the exam.
Once you start a Timed Exam by opening it, a timer will appear on the course page, counting down the amount of time you have remaining to complete the exam (the Time Limit). You cannot pause or reset the timer. Navigating away from or closing the exam will not stop the timer. When time runs out—either because the Time Limit has ended or because the Testing Period has ended—your exam will be automatically submitted.
