The course 14.310Fx Data Analysis in Social Science—Assessing Your Knowledge is one of the SDS MicroMasters Program's two assessment-only courses. Enrollment functions differently for these Assessment Courses than for the program's other courses.
Note: Only learners pursuing one of the Social Sciences Program Tracks (Social Sciences or Time Series and Social Sciences) need to take the Content Course 14.310x and its Assessment Course 14.310Fx.

Eligibility For 14.310Fx
14.310Fx is an assessment-only course. You must take its Content Course, 14.310x first. |
To be eligible to take the Assessment Course, 14.310Fx Data Analysis in Social Science — Assessing Your Knowledge, you must first complete its associated Content Course, 14.310x Data Analysis for Social Scientists, and achieve a Total Course Score of at least 15%.
The Content Course should be taken on the Audit track, for free. SDS MicroMasters learners do not need to pay to upgrade the Content Course and do not need to take its Final Exam—SDS learners pay to upgrade the Assessment Course instead, which hosts the SDS Exam.
The passing score in 14.310x for SDS MicroMasters learners is 15%. This is half of the maximum Total Course Score possible without taking the Final Exam (30%).
Enrollment for 14.310Fx
There is no open enrollment period for 14.310Fx. Learners cannot enroll themselves in 14.310Fx as they would for other courses. Instead, the SDS team enrolls eligible learners in each session of the course before the scheduled start date. |
Automatic Enrollment Timeline for 14.310Fx
If you are planning to take 14.310Fx within one year of passing its Content Course, 14.310x, you may expect to be automatically enrolled in the upcoming session of 14.310Fx by the SDS team around 2-4 weeks before the session's scheduled start date.
If you wait more than one year after passing the Content Course to take the Assessment Course then you will not be automatically enrolled—you must explicitly request enrollment. See below for details |
In either case, if you believe that you are eligible to take 14.310Fx and wish to do so, but you are not enrolled by one week before the scheduled start date of the 14.310Fx session you wish to take, reach out to SDS Support ASAP for assistance in getting enrolled, using the instructions below.
The Enrollment Deadline for 14.310Fx course sessions is typically 1-2 days after the scheduled start date. If you are not already enrolled by the scheduled start date of a course session you probably won't be able to get enrolled and take the exam in that course session.
If you wait until after a session's start date to request enrollment, it may not be possible to enroll you in the session. If you miss a 14.310Fx session, you will need to wait 6-12 months until the next one. |
Once You're Enrolled in a 14.310Fx Course Session
You Must Upgrade to the Verified (Paid) Track
Because the automatic enrollment method used by the SDS Team cannot also automatically upgrade learners' enrollment track, all learners must manually upgrade their enrollment for 14.310Fx after being enrolled. The 14.310Fx exam is available only to learners enrolled on the Verified (Paid) enrollment track.
It is crucial to upgrade your enrollment track as soon as possible, once you are enrolled. The SDS team cannot make exceptions for learners who do not upgrade before the deadline. |
The Verification (Payment) Deadline for 14.310Fx course sessions typically occurs about 1-2 weeks after the scheduled start date of the course. If you fail to upgrade your enrollment by the Payment Deadline, you will not be able to take the exam, and you will need to wait until the next session of 14.310Fx. The course is generally offered once or twice per year, so if you miss the deadline, you will be waiting for a while until the next session. How to Upgrade to the Verified (Paid) Track
If You Purchased an SDS Program Track Bundle
If you purchased all of your SDS courses together, with the Program Track Bundle for either the Social Sciences or Time Series and Social Sciences Tracks, then you will have received a paid course entitlement for 14.310Fx. As long as your entitlement for 14.310Fx has not expired, you are not required to submit additional payment to upgrade your enrollment.

If You Purchased SDS Courses Individually
If you have been purchasing your SDS courses one at a time, then you must submit payment for 14.310Fx individually to upgrade your enrollment.

In either case, you must upgrade your enrollment in 14.310Fx to the Verified/Certificate (Paid) enrollment track before the Payment Deadline of the course session. The deadline will be prominently displayed both within the edX Courseware and in emails from the course team that you will receive.
How To Request Enrollment in a 14.310Fx Course Session
If you passed 14.310x more than one year before the 14.310Fx session you intend to take, you must reach out to SDS Support and request enrollment. The SDS MicroMasters team will not automatically enroll any learners who passed 14.310x more than one year before each session of 14.310Fx.
The SDS MicroMasters team only accepts enrollment requests for the next upcoming course session of 14.310Fx, and generally can only accept requests within about 2-4 weeks before the start date of the course session.
To request enrollment, send an email to SDS Support with the following information about 2-4 weeks before the session of 14.310Fx you wish to be enrolled in. You must request enrollment in this manner for each session of 14.310Fx that you wish to enroll in.
If You Passed 14.310x on the MITx Online Platform — After October 2022
You must include the following information with your enrollment request to ensure that the SDS team can verify your passing score in 14.310x:
- Your Full Name
- The email address associated with your edX account
- The email address associated with your MITx Online account (if it is different from your edX account)
If You Passed 14.310x on the edX Platform — Before October 2022
You must include the following information with your enrollment request to ensure that the SDS team can verify your passing score in 14.310x:
- Your Full Name
- The email address associated with the edX account you use to take SDS courses
- The email address associated with the edX account you used to pass 14.310x—if different than the above
- When you passed 14.310x—the year and month, if you remember
