Python Programming
Among the SDS MicroMasters courses, 6.86x Machine Learning with Python and 6.419x Data Analysis: Statistical Modeling and Computation in Application require that learners have proficiency with Python programming. Neither course teaches or provides a review of Python programming within its material.
Learners who do not already possess a strong understanding of Python are recommended to complete Introduction to Computer Science and Programming with Python, which is available for free on edX.org and on MIT OpenCourseWare, or other similar introductory Python courses.
R Programming
On the other hand, 14.310x Data Analysis in Social Science utilizes R programming—and it is taught and reviewed in the course materials. Unlike the Python requirement for the Machine Learning course, proficiency in R is not required before starting 14.310x. The course provides the necessary instruction and guidance to develop R programming skills as part of the learning experience.
