The SDS Data Analysis Elective Course for the Social Sciences Program Track, the Assessment Course 14.310Fx Data Analysis in Social Science—Assessing Your Knowledge, requires that learners first complete its associated Content Course, 14.310x Data Analysis for Social Scientists.
The Content Course, 14.310x, is part of two MITx MicroMasters Programs—the SDS and the DEDP programs. In 2021, 14.310x transitioned from the edX to the MITx Online learning platform along with the DEDP program.
14.310x is still part of the SDS MicroMasters Program, but it is no longer hosted on the edX platform. This means that, in order to follow the Social Science SDS Program Track, by earning the Course Certificate for 14.310Fx Data Analysis in Social Science—Assessing Your Knowledge, learners must also pass 14.310x Data Analysis for Social Scientists. You must have both an MITx Online account and a MicroMasters Portal Dashboard, and they must be linked.
How To Create Your Accounts
If you are an existing SDS learner, and you previously completed and/or submitted payment for one or more SDS courses on the edX platform, you already have an edX account. You may or may not already have a MicroMasters Portal Dashboard—which you can access here. If you don't have a Portal Dashboard already, please instead refer to this FAQ article. How do I create an SDS MicroMasters Portal Account?
Once you have a MicroMasters Portal Account, follow these steps to link it to a new MITx Online account. Please Note: It is important that you use the same email address as you used to create your MicroMasters Portal account when creating your new MITx Online account.
- If you have not already created a new account on the MITx Online platform, create a new account by navigating to https://mitxonline.mit.edu/create-account/ and following the directions. Please be sure to use the same account name and email address you use on the edX platform.
- Once you finish creating your MITx Online account—or if you already had one—, link it to your MicroMasters Portal Dashboard by going to https://micromasters.mit.edu/signin/?program=2, clicking "Continue with MITx Online", and following the directions.

A Note For Learners Who Completed 14.310x in the Past, on the edX Platform
Because of the transition from edX to the MITx Online platform, if you took 14.310x in the past on the edX platform, you can no longer access that archived course content on your edX Dashboard. However, if you took 14.310x on the edX platform in the past and earned a passing score, the SDS MicroMasters team can still verify your completion, so you can complete 14.310Fx.
PLEASE NOTE: It is not possible to enroll in 14.310Fx directly—the SDS MicroMasters team must enroll learners in the course.
If you passed 14.310x more than one year before the 14.310Fx session you intend to take, you must reach out to SDS Support and request enrollment. The SDS MicroMasters team will not automatically enroll any learners who passed 14.310x more than one year before each session of 14.310Fx. |
For instructions on how to request enrollment in an upcoming session of 14.310Fx, please see the How To Request Enrollment in a 14.310Fx Course Session section of the FAQ article How do I enroll in 14.310Fx Data Analysis in Social Science—Assessing Your Knowledge?
Please make your enrollment request about 2-4 weeks before the 14.310Fx course session is scheduled to start. You will need to request enrollment in this manner for each session of 14.310Fx that you wish to enroll in.
