Policy
It is the policy of the SDS MicroMasters Team that learners may only attempt the SDS Capstone Exam twice. This means that if you attempt the SDS Capstone Exam course and fail it, you must pass it on your next, second attempt.
If you take the SDS Capstone Exam again after having failed it once, the second attempt will be your last. Regardless of whether you pass or fail on your second attempt, you cannot attempt the Capstone Exam a third time. |
Because the SDS Capstone Exam is a required element of the SDS MicroMasters Program, learners who fail the SDS Capstone Exam twice become permanently unable to complete the SDS MicroMasters Program and earn the Program Credential.
Recommendations
Because you are only allowed two attempts to pass the SDS Capstone Exam, the SDS team strongly encourages you to thoroughly prepare for each attempt, to ensure you perform to the best of your ability and achieve the best score you can.
While learners must always wait until at least the next available session of the SDS Capstone Exam Course to attempt it, please note that you need not take your first or second attempt at the Capstone Exam as soon as it is possible—you may choose to wait and take any future session of the SDS Capstone Exam. Overall, however, the SDS team finds that learners are most likely to be successful when they attempt the Capstone Exam within—at most—two years of having finished their last SDS Content Course.
For the same reasons, the SDS team also very strongly encourages learners to complete the SDS MicroMasters Program within five years of earning their first Course Certificate—but extensions are available at the discretion of the SDS team.
