About 14.310x and 14.310Fx
If you choose to take the 14.310Fx Data Analysis in Social Science: Assessing Your Knowledge elective course as part of the SDS MicroMasters Program's Social Sciences Program Track, you must enroll in and complete two courses to earn the MicroMasters Course Certificate towards the SDS Program Credential—the Content Course and the Assessment Course.
The Content Course, 14.310x Data Analysis for Social Scientists, is now offered through the MITx Online platform. This course covers the methods for harnessing and analyzing data to answer questions of cultural, social, economic, and policy interest. This course is a prerequisite for the Assessment Course. The Assessment Course, 14.310Fx Data Analysis for Social Scientists—Assessing Your Knowledge, is offered on the edX platform. This course comprises only an exam, which tests your knowledge of the course content from 14.310x. For instructions on how to enroll in 14.310Fx, see this section below
To be eligible to complete the Assessment Course, 14.310Fx, you must first complete the Content Course, 14.310x, with a passing score on the audit track. Because you will not be eligible to take the Content Course's Final Exam on the Audit track, the passing Overall Course Score is 15% or better.

You must enroll in the Content Course, 14.310x, manually. Enroll by navigating to the MITx Online Course Page for 14.310x Data Analysis for Social Scientists and clicking the "Enroll" button. We strongly encourage you to enroll before the start date of the course.
How to Enroll in the Assessment Course — 14.310Fx
The Assessment Course, 14.310Fx Data Analysis in Social Science—Assessing Your Knowledge, is a separate course. Only learners who have earned a passing score in the Content Course, 14.310x are eligible to take the Assessment Course, 14.310Fx.
Enrollment for the 14.310Fx functions differently than for other courses. There is no open enrollment period for 14.310Fx. Learners cannot enroll themselves in 14.310Fx as they would for other courses.
Instead, the SDS team enrolls eligible learners in each session of the course before the scheduled start date. However, if you passed 14.310x more than one year before the 14.310Fx course session you wish to take then you will not be automatically enrolled—you must explicitly request enrollment. What is the Schedule of Course Availability for The Content Course, 14.310x?
The Content Course, 14.310x, is offered more frequently than its Assessment Course, 14.310Fx. The Assessment Course, is generally offered only one time per year. We encourage learners to take the Content Course during the same semester as the Assessment Course—or at least during the same year—but this is not required
Do I Need to Pay for the Content Course, 14.310x?
You do not need to pay for Verified Learner status for the Content Course, 14.310x Data Analysis for Social Scientists. You must receive a passing score in 14.310x, though, to be eligible for the 14.310Fx.
You must pay for Verified Learner status for the Assessment Course, 14.310Fx Data Analysis in Social Science—Assessing Your Knowledge. If you do not upgrade to the Verified (Paid) enrollment track in 14.310Fx, you will not be able to take the exam, and cannot earn the Course Certificate towards your SDS MicroMasters Program Credential.
