When you submit payment for a DEDP course, you receive one attempt at the Proctored Exam for that course. You are not obligated to sit for the Proctored Exam as soon as you are eligible to do so. You are welcome to wait and take the Proctored Exam in a future semester, when you are ready.
If you require more than one attempt at the Proctored Exam for a DEDP course, you must submit payment of the course fee for that course again to receive another attempt. Learners may only make one attempt at the Proctored Exam for a specific course per semester. In order to re-try a course's Proctored Exam, you must wait until a future semester in which the course is offered. Some DEDP courses are offered more often than others, but there is no limit to the number of times a learner may attempt the Proctored Exam, provided they make payment for each attempt.
The timing of your payment for a DEDP course affects only when you can sit for the proctored exam. If you plan to sit for a DEDP course's Proctored Exam at the end of a specific DEDP semester, then you must submit payment for that course before the Payment Deadline for that semester. If you submit payment after the deadline, then you will need to wait for a future semester to sit for that course's Proctored Exam. You should make your payment according to when you would like to complete the proctored exam.
If you take a DEDP course on the Audit track, before submitting payment, and achieve a passing score, you will not be required to retake the course in order to sit for the Proctored Exam—your MicroMasters Portal Dashboard automatically saves the highest score you earn in each DEDP course.
Please note, not every DEDP course’s proctored exam is offered every semester. To plan your schedule, please visit the FAQ How often will the DEDP courses and proctored exams be offered? Where can I find a schedule for all upcoming course runs and proctored exams?
Recent Changes to DEDP Proctored Exam Attempts
Learners who received two Proctored Exam attempts per payment in the past were eligible to sit for the Proctored Exam up to two times before the end of the Fall 2021 semester exam period.
The number of Proctored Exam attempts associated with DEDP course payments has now been retroactively reduced to one attempt per payment as of the end of 2021. Learners who received two Proctored Exam attempts at any time in the past, have not yet used both attempts, and wish to sit for both attempts must use both attempts by the end of the Fall 2021 DEDP semester’s Proctored Exam testing session. Because it is not possible to sit for the Proctored Exam for any DEDP course more than once during a single semester, learners who currently have two attempts for a course and wish to make use of both, must use at least one attempt before or during the Summer 2021 DEDP semester, so that they may use the second attempt during the Fall 2021 semester.
- Learners who received two Proctored Exam attempts for a DEDP course and used neither attempt before the end of the Fall 2021 DEDP semester have had one of their attempts removed. They will have one attempt remaining for that course.
- Learners who received two Proctored Exam attempts for a DEDP course and used only one attempt before the end of the Fall 2021 DEDP semester have had their second attempt removed. They will have zero attempts remaining for that course.
If you have no Proctored Exam attempts remaining for a DEDP course, then you will be required to submit payment for the course again in order to sit for the Proctored Exam again.
