When you submit payment for a DEDP course and upgrade to the Verified (Paid) status, you will receive one attempt at the Proctored Exam for that course. Payments for DEDP courses are now tied to a specific course session, which means that you are eligible to sit for a course's Proctored Exam at the end of that specific session of the course only.
Previously, learners could submit payment for a DEDP course and then choose to take the Proctored Exam at the end of any future course session; however, this is no longer possible. Learners may no longer pay for a DEDP course, complete the coursework, and then choose to wait to take the Proctored Exam at the end of a future semester (exceptions can be made for extenuating circumstances). For more information about taking a course as an Audit learner first and paying for the course during a future semester, please refer to this FAQ article.
If you require more than one attempt at the Proctored Exam for a DEDP course, you must re-enroll in a future session of the course and also submit payment again. You will then be upgraded to a Verified (Paid) status.
Learners may make only one attempt at any DEDP course's Proctored Exam per semester. In order to re-take a course's Proctored Exam, you must wait until a future semester in which the course is offered. There is no limit to the number of times a learner can take a course's Proctored Exam, provided the learner submits payment for each exam attempt.
If you submitted payment for one or more DEDP courses prior to September 2022 but did not use your Proctored Exam attempt(s) or if you are unsure whether you have any Proctored Exam attempts remaining, please reach out to us at dedp-micromasters-support@mit.edu for assistance.
Please note: a DEDP course's proctored exam is only offered during the semester in which the course is running. To plan your schedule, please visit the FAQ How often will the DEDP courses and proctored exams be offered? Where can I find a schedule for all upcoming course runs and proctored exams?
Historical Changes to DEDP Proctored Exam Attempts
2021
DEDP learners who received two Proctored Exam attempts per payment prior to March 13, 2021 were eligible to sit for the Proctored Exam up to two times before the end of the Fall 2021 DEDP semester's exam period.
The number of Proctored Exam attempts associated with DEDP course payments has was retroactively reduced to one attempt per payment as of the end of 2021. Learners who had received two Proctored Exam attempts at any time in the past, and who had not used both attempts before the Fall 2021 DEDP semester's Proctored Exam testing session were affected by this change.
- Learners who received two Proctored Exam attempts for a DEDP course and used neither attempt before the end of the Fall 2021 DEDP semester had one of their attempts removed. One attempt remains for that course.
- Learners who received two Proctored Exam attempts for a DEDP course and used only one attempt before the end of the Fall 2021 DEDP semester had their second attempt removed. Zero attempts remain for that course.
