Payment Methods
The DEDP program accepts globally recognized major credit or debit cards that have a Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express logo. We also accept payment via PayPal. We are unable to accept payment via invoice for individual participants, nor are we able to offer payment or installment plans. All participants will receive a payment receipt via email.
Payment Timing and Proctored Exams
Since September 2022 and going forward, payments for DEDP courses are tied to the specific course session for which a learner pays. For example, if a learner submits payment for a course session running in the Fall 2023 semester, the learner must take the Proctored Exam at the end of that course session in the Fall 2023 semester. (However, please note: exceptions can be made in extenuating circumstances. Reach out to dedp-micromasters-support@mit.edu for assistance.

When you submit payment for a DEDP course, your enrollment for that course session will be upgraded to Verified (Paid). You will be eligible to sit for the Proctored Exam at the end of that course session.
Submitting Payment
When you submit payment for a DEDP MicroMasters course session, your enrollment for that session will be upgraded to the Verified/Certificate (Paid) track. You will be eligible to sit for the Proctored Exam at the end of that course session.
The process for submitting payments depends on when you make your payment and if you receive financial aid.
There are three primary times you may choose to pay:
- You can choose to make your payment when you enroll.
- To enroll as a verified learner and pay full price, first click “Enroll” on the MITx Online course page. Then, click the “Continue” button and follow the system prompts to complete your payment and enrollment.
- You can choose to enroll as an audit learner at first and later upgrade to verified.
- To enroll for free as an audit learner, click “Enroll” on the MITx Online Course page. Then select the "No, thank you. I will take the free version, without a certificate" link. Your enrollment will be complete and you will be able to access the course via your MITx Online dashboard when the course begins.
- You can upgrade to a verified status via your MITx Online dashboard or from within the courseware any time before the semester's payment deadline.
- On your MITx Online dashboard, you can upgrade by clicking the “Get Certificate” button.
- In the courseware, you can click the "Upgrade" button on the right-sidebar within the course.
- You can choose to pay full price or request financial assistance on the checkout page.
- You can choose to enroll as an Audit learner at first and then make your payment after your personalized price/financial assistance has been approved.

- Please be sure to request financial assistance as soon as possible. The payment deadline is strict. Exceptions will not be made for learners who do not have an approved price in time for the payment deadline. - Once you have received notification that your personalized price has been approved, you can proceed to make payments for any DEDP course.
- If you have not enrolled yet, you can access your checkout page by clicking “Enroll” on the MITx Online course page. Then select “Continue” and follow the system prompts to complete your payment.
- If you have enrolled in the course, you can access your checkout page by selecting the options to upgrade to verified on your dashboard or within the courseware as described above.
- On the checkout page, you will see your course price. Follow the system prompts to complete payment. If you do not see the correct course price, please contact dedp-micromasters-support@mit.edu.
If you completed the Financial Assistance process a few years ago, you may not see all of the payment options when you enroll in a course. If you do not see an option you would like to select, please contact dedp-micromasters-support@mit.edu.
